Jason was born in Jackson and raised in Brownsville, Tennessee. His musical career started when he was 11, when he started singing at a local church. At the age of 14, his grandfather asked him if he was a Christian. Jason told him he was not, so he prayed with him although at the time, Jason claims he didn’t truly feel committed to Christ. At the age of 15, he started to play the guitar and he soon fell in love with music.
Jason is a gifted musician and so he facilitates the various worship arts venues of our church such as Sunday services, FSM, and College Fellowship. He also works on the creative elements of our worship services.
During high school, Jason worked at Libertyland, a theme park in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a performer in the park’s country show during the summers. He said it was during this time that he knew that music was what he was going to do. The day after Jason graduated from high school, he moved to Nashville and he eventually started playing for a country artist named Nate Barrett. With Barrett, Jason had the opportunity to open for such musical acts as Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Black Hawk and Rascal Flatts. Barrett was doing well and was about to kick off a radio tour for his newly finished record for Disney of Nashville. As a result, Jason decided to go back home to spend some time with his family before the tour started.
During that time, Jason met Carly, who he would eventually marry in April 2005. He met her through a friend who had played with Jason at Barley’s and other small time gigs in Jackson.
Then Nate Barrett lost his recording contract, so Jason stayed in Jackson and started going to church with Carly. She was the reason he started going again. Jason met with and got to know the pastor of Northside Assembly, who helped Jason to truly come to know the Lord. He served on the church’s worship team and married Carly there. After they were married, the Fitts' moved to Nashville and Jason got a job with a Canadian Christian band called Carried Away.
While he was playing with this band, he got a call for a job interview at Fellowship Bible Church to help lead worship. Jason and Carly knew they wanted to lead worship somewhere, and felt Fellowship was where they needed to go. Jason came for the interview and officially joined the staff in January 2006. In December 2007 Jason and Carly were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Andi Marie.
