The middle child of five boys, Randy grew up in the mountain town of Brevard, North Carolina. His father is a country Baptist preacher still serving the Lord in Brevard. It was during a revival meeting in his father’s church that Randy encountered Christ and came to trust Him as his Savior. Randy was just thirteen. Randy has always loved music and especially enjoyed singing. He led the music as a young teen at his father’s church and decided to pursue a degree in voice and choral music when he finished High School. Randy completed his Bachelor’s degree in Music in 1983.

Randy directs the worship ministry of Fellowship and also oversees the administration, service ministries, and overall operation needs of the church. He also plays a key roll in the pastoral care of the church.

During those early years of his new faith, Randy had sensed God’s calling to be a Pastor even though he wasn’t certain exactly what that looked like. It was in those teen years that he also met a very tall and cute girl named Susan. While she doesn’t recall their first meeting in the ninth grade, Randy has a very vivid memory of the encounter. Many years of pursuit paid off and they were married in the fall of ’83. After their wedding they spent a couple of years in Boone, NC where Randy worked as a builder and general contractor. Then, in obedience to the Lord’s leading, they relocated to Dallas, Texas where Randy received a master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.

During his time in seminary, Randy worked as a volunteer for Young Life. This experience and his music background led him into his first full-time ministry position in Charlotte, NC as a Youth and Worship Pastor. The Pierson family moved to Jackson in 1990 where Randy took a similar position. Along the way the Pierson clan has been blessed with 6 beautiful children.

Randy and his family have been involved with FBC, Jackson from its very beginning. His experience and his pragmatic wisdom have served the church well and we look forward to many years of fruitful service with Randy.
